Since Rs 300 is 30% of his income, his total income is:

Rs 300 / 0.3 = Rs 1000

After petrol, he's left with Rs 700.

A quarter of this is:

0.25 * 700 = Rs 175

Thus, he spends Rs 175 on rent.
