40 ltrs .. ratio of alcohal and water is 25:15

- let the ratio of alcohol to water be 5x : 3x
Drawing off 16 lts the ratio of alcohol and water emoved will be 5/8*16 and 3/8*16 ie 10 and 6 gallons of alcohol and water respectively
remaining alcohol and water will be 5x - 10 : 3x - 6
Now 16 lts of water is added to it
5x - 10 : 3x - 6 + 16 :: 3:5
5x-10 : 3x + 10 :: 3:5
so
(5x-10)*5 = (3x+10)3
25x - 50 = 9x + 30
16x = 80
8x = 40.
The cask holds 8x gallons ie 40 gallons
