Time Distance and Speed
A man can row 6 km/hr in still water. If the speed of stream is 2km/hr, it takes him 3 hours to row to a place and back. How far is the place?
Read Solution (Total 6)
-
- speed in down stream=6+2=8km/hr
speed in up stream=6-2=4km/hr
speed=distance/time
let Xkm be the required distance
(x/8)+(x/4)=3
this gives x=8kms - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(59) No(0)
- downstream=6+2 = 8km
upstream=6-2 = 4km
avg speed =(2*8*4)/8+4
avg speed = 5.33
now distance be =x
total distance in context with avg speed =2x
speed = distance/time
total time = 3hr
5.33 = 2x/3
x=8km.. :) - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(3)
- speed down stream= 8 km/h
up stream= 4km/h
let distance be d km
hence, d/8+d/6=3
on solving d=8 km

- Y CANT BE IT LIKE THIS ANY ONE EXPLAIN
8 AND 4 ARE THE SPEEDS SO CALCULATING ITS AVERAGE SPEED NOW ITS 16/3 KM/HR * TIME (3) SO WE GET 16KMS AS THE DISTANCE TOTAL TRAVELLED SO 16/2 IS THE ONE WAY
IS THIS METHOD CORRECT ?? - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(6)
- qu. is asking about distance not about speed....

- Its should be 24kms.
