Father distributed certain money among his 5 sons such that first gets the one fifth of the total, second gets one fourth of the remaining,the third gets one third of the remaining and fourth gets the half of the remaining and fifth gets the remaining Rs 240 in succession.How much total money father distributed among his sons ?

• Let the total salary be x.
  1st son=x/5. so remaining=x-x/5=4x/5
  2nd son=1/4(4x/5)=x/5. so remaining=4x/5-x/5=3x/5.
  3rd son=1/3(3x/5)=x/5. so remaining=3x/5-x/5=2x/5.
  4th son=1/2(2x/5)=x/5. so remaining=2x/5-x/5=x/5.
  now the remaining salary ie x/5 is given to 5th son.
  x/5=240
  x=1200rs.
  SO father distribute 1200 total money among his sons.

• consider a simple example..let the total money be 100
  1st son gets 1/5th of money=100/5=20
  remaining=100-20=80
  2nd gets 1/4th of rem=80/4=20
  remaining=80-20=60
  3rd gets 1/3rd of rem=60/3=20
  remaining=60-20=40
  4th gets 1/2 of rem=40/2=20
  remaining=40-20=20
  5th gets 20.
  same que is asked..5th son gets 240 so all might get the same=240*5=1200
