x and y are 2 numbers which when divided by 6 leave a remainder of 4 and 5 respectively. what will be the remainder when y+x is divided by 6?
a.6
b.9
c.1
d.none
Read Solution (Total 27)
-
- x/6=4
28/6=4
x=28
when 28 is divided by 4 it leaves remainder 4
similarly
y/6=5
35/6=5
y=35
(28+35)/6=63/6=3
so option D - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(41) No(5)
- ALWAYES REMANDER WILL BE 3
BECAUSE 4+5=9
WHICH IS 3 GREATER THEN 6
SO ANS IS D - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(25) No(2)
- x/6=4
24/6=4
so,x=24
y/6=5

x/6=4 ==10/6
y/6=5 == 11/6
(y+x)/6 = (11+10)/6

x/6 i.e. 16/6= remainder 4
y/6 i.e. 17/6= remainder 5

- x/6=4
then x=24;
Now,
y/6=5
then y=30;

11,17,23......are the numbers which leaves remainder 5
10+11=21/6=gives 3 as remainder
16+17=33/6=gives 3 as remainder - 4 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- The ans will be none. As the ans us 3 is not present in the options. Take any 2 numbers multiple of 6 and add 4,5 respectively, then divide the sum of the results by 6 , you always find the result as 3

- X=6a+4
y=6b+5,where a and b are arbitrary integers
y+x= 6a+6b+5+4
=6(a+b)+9
={6(a+b)+6}+3
=6(a+b+1)+3
Remainder=3
Therefore answer: (d) none - 4 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- According to the question, when x is divided by 6 then a remainder of 4 is obtained.
So, x = 6a + 4
Similarly y = 6b + 5 [ where a and b are two positive integers. ]
Squaring the both side of equations:
X² = 36a² + 48a + 16 ………………….(i)
Y² = 36b² + 60b + 25……………………..(2)
Now add equation (i) and equation (ii)
X² + Y² = 36a² + 36b² + 48a + 60b + 41
X² + Y² = 6 ( 6a² + 6b² + 8a + 10b + 6) + 5
So
X² + Y² = 6m + 5 [ where m = (6a² + 6b² + 8a + 10b + 6) ]
Now by euclids division lemma X²+Y² when divided by 6 leaves a remainder 5.
So the answer is 5. - 2 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
