Logical Reasoning
Number Series
divide 50 in to two parts such tat sum of their reciprocal is 1/12?
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- let one number be x
the other number will be 50-x
1/x + 1/(50-x)= 1/12
on simplification we get
x^2-50x+600=0
on solving we get x= 30 and X=20 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(0)
- let the two numbers be x and y.
so x+y=50
and, 1/x+1/y=1/12
so, y+x/xy=1/12
12(y+x)=xy
12(50)=xy
thus xy=600
or y=600/x
now x+y=50
x+(600/x)=50
x^2-50x+600=0
x^2-30x-20x+600=0
x(x-30)-x(x-20)=0
x=20,x=30.
checking:
20+30=50
and 1/20+1/30=1/12.
so the two numbers are 20 and 30. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(0)
- since 50 is divided into two parts so let first part be x and other part 50-x
sum of two no is 1/12 so 1/x+1/50-x=1/12.So on solving the equation we get the quadratic equation x^2-50x+600.on solving we get x=20 and x=30 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
