Ques 7: Alok and Bhanu play the following min-max game. Given the expression N = 15 + X*(Y – Z) Where X, Y and Z are variables representing single digits (0 to 9), Alok would like to maximize N while Bhanu would like to minimize it. Towards this end, Alok chooses a single digit number and Bhanu substitutes this for a variable of her choice (X, Y or Z). Alok then chooses the next value and Bhanu, the variable to substitute the value. Finally Alok proposes the value for the remaining variable. Assuming both play to their optimal strategies, the value of N at the end of the game would be?
Note: For this type of questions:
x+y-z=11
x-y-z=2
x*(y+z)=18
wht shud be the approach to do such type of prob??

- yeah tcs has this 3 type of questions where there is
x+y-z, x-y-z and x*(y+z)
now this have the answers as 11,2 and 18 resp. if an integer is added to any of the above equations just add the integer to the value of the equations...for example in this case it would be 15+18=33....(dont ask me for explanations why this value comes for those equations..it took me some gruelling sessions to understand that ) - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(49) No(9)
- 1. N=K+(X+Y-Z) ans = K+11
2. N=K+(X-Y-Z) ans = K+2
3. N=K+X*(Y-Z) ans = K+18 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(24) No(1)
- u hv to tk (y-z)=2...and x= 9 for doing dis. prb..
ans will be 15+9(2)=33 - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(7)
- the best solution for dis quetion will be 24.the value of N=24 is the only value which satisfied the all conditionregarding d question.m here providing a best solution for dis question.
given eqution:
N=15+X*(Y-Z)
we will consider first condition alok want to maximize this in order to maximize the eqution the value of (Y-Z)>0,which implies Y>Z so in 0-9 the maximum value is 9 bt alok will not take 9 as he knows if he takes highest value for y den bhanu definetily substitute value 9 with Z to minimize the solution.so in this case maximum value of N will be 15.bt if he choose 8 to maximize the expression ,and the only choice for bhanu to minimize the expression is substitute the value of 8 with y.
now so eqution will look like this.
N=15+X*(Y-8)
now in dis situation to get the maximum value alok has only choice 9 so he will provide a next value 9.and for the bhanu to get minimum value of N the only choice to put it in y..
so in the last alok will put 9 for X and get the maximum value of expression i,e 24 . finally alok choose 8,9,9 to get the maximum value.this is one and only the optimal solution for dis quetion. so 24 is the final answer of dis question if anybody didnt get the answer plzzz leave their query.

- Alok will choose 7 then [5 or 9] then [0 or 9] according toBhanu’s strategyCases can be (N)= 40+7+9-5=51N = 40+9+9-7 = 51N = 40+7+5-0 = 52
• Minimum is 51 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(4)
- 30 . simply put the values.

- alok is trying to maximize value so he always pick max number 0 to 9
max number is 9 so alok always gives 9.
and bhanu substitute it in equation
so
N = 9 + 9+9 -9 =18
so 18 is right answer - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(5)
