If I walk at 3 Km/hr i miss the train by 2 min. If however i walk at 4km/hr i reach 2min before the arrival of the train. How far do i walk to reach the station?

- difference in time will 2+2=4 min ,
which is equal to 4/60=1/15hr
therefore
dis/3km/hr - dis/4km/hr =1/15,
dis=4/5km
which is equal to 800 m. (answer) - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(22) No(0)
- Ans= 800 m
3km/hr= 3/60 km/min
3/60=d/(t+2)...............(1)
4/60=d/(t-2)................(2)
eq 1
t= 20d-2;
eq2
d=4/5 km
=800 m

- time diffrence = d/3-d/4 = 4/60mins.. thus d=4/5=0.8km

- let the required distance be x km.
difference in time taken at two speeds= 2min+ 2min = 4min =4/60 =1/15 hours;
so, x/3-x/4=1/15;
solving dis we get the value of x=4/5 km or 800m - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(1)
- ((product of speed )/(difference of speed) ) *(sum of T/60)
((3*4)/1))*(2+2)/60
=4/5Km - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- let require distance be x
x/3-x/4=(2+2)/60=4/60=1/15
4*x-3*x=12/15=4/5
x= 800 mts

- Direct formula : required distance= {(product of two speeds)/difference in speed } * difference in time between arrival times .......i.e.,
((3*4)/1}4/60 [we have to put all in same units]
Ans: 0.8km==800meters - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- theres some error as if we solve in ths way it is coming.
difference in time will 2+2=4 min ,which is equal to 4/60=1/15hr
therefore dis/3-dis/4=1/15,
dis=4/5. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)

but dont know how? - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- convert km/hr to m/s
3*5/18=5/6 and 4*5/18=10/9
difference in time is 4min so time=distance/speed take distance=x m
6*x/5-9*x/10=4 so x=40/3m - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- D=(s1*s2/speed gap)*time gap
D=(3*4/1)4/60=4/5km - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Ans. is 266.6 m
- 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- let the distance is x km.
the differnce in time is 2+2=4
so x/3-x/4=4/60
x=4/5km
x=800 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 3(x+2)=4(x-2)
x=14 actual time
thus the person reaches in x+2 = 16min
16min=16/60 hr
hence distance =3*(16/60)
distance=4/5km=0.8km - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- let distance=d
time diffrence = d/3-d/4 = 4/60mins.. thus d=4/5=0.8km
