George is 5 times more efficient than his son. He completes a work 40 days earlier than his son. Working together, how many days will they take to complete the work?

• george'son can do a work in x days
  
  george can do in x/5 days and also do 40 day earlier
  
  x-x/5=40
  4x/5=40
  x=50
  so george'son can do work in 50 days,and george can do in 10 days
  now if they work together
  1/50+1/10
  60/500
  so if they both work together they will do the work in 25/3 days(ans)

  work ratio btwn gorge and his son is 5:1
  so the ratio of time to complete total work is gorge:son=1:5
  nw let gorge complte the work in y days
  so as said in qustn son will complete it in (y+40)days
  so y:(y+40)=1:5
  y=10
  so gorge will cmplt 10dys and son in 50 dys
  so their combo 1hr work is 1/10+1/50=6/50
  so they will cmplt the work to2thr in 50/6dys
  ans is 50/6dys !!

• If George takes x days to complete the work, his son takes 5x days.(since he is 5 times efficient than his son)
  So, 5x-x=40
  =>4x=40
  =>x=10 days
  George takes 10 days, so in one day he completes 1/10th of the work
  his son takes 5x days=50 days,so in one day he completes 1/50th of the work
  If both work together, work done in 1 day=1/10+1/50=6/50=3/25
  So, no. of days to complete the work=25/3

• Lets assume george does the work in x days,
  then his son will do it in 5x days.
  
  Now 5x-x=40 => 4x=40 => x=10
  
  So 5x= 50(Son's days to complete the work) and x = 10 (George's days to complete the work).
  
  When taking LCM,its 50 which gives George's one day work is 5, and George son's one day work is 1
  
  therefore 50/6 => 25/3
