- x=45 degrees when you expand TAN(x+y) and TAN(x-y) respectively and multiply them you will get tan^2 (x)-tan^2 (y)/1-tan^2(x)tan^2(y) take the denominater to the other side ant rearrange to bring tan^2(x) and tan^2(x)tan^2(y) on left side rest on the other, take tan^2(x) common .....you will get finally tan^2(x)=1 or tan(x)=1.......from tan table you know x=45
