In a mixture of a, b and c, if a and b are mixed in 3:5 ratio and b and c are mixed in 8:5 ratio and if the final mixture is 35 liters, find the amount of b?

first we have to equal b in both the ratios
so multiplying numerator and denominator of a/b by 8 and for b/c by 5 we have
a/b=24/40 and b/c=40/25
now b is equal.
let a=24x,b=40x,c=25x
since a+b+c=35
->24x+40x+25x=35
->x=.39 (approx)
