there are two boxes, one containing 10 red balls and the other containing 10 green balls.you are allowed to move the balls between the boxes so that when you choose a box at random and a ball at random from the choosen box,the probability of getting a red ball is maximized.the maximum probability is

- to maximize probability,we will allow 9 red balls to mix in box containing green balls
So,one box contains 1 red ball
other contains 10 green & 9 red
If 1st box is chosen randomly,
Probability of taking 1st box=1/2
Probability to get red ball=1 of 1/2=1/2
If 2nd box is chosen randomly
Probability of taking 2nd box=1/2
Probability to get red ball=9/19 of 1/2=9/38
Total probaility=1/2+9/38=28/38=14/19
Maximum probability = 14/19

- for this q u have a simple formula which s applicable for al these type of q.. it s 1/2+1/2((no. of max balls -1)/(total no of balls -1))..
so here max ball is red = 10 and total balls = 20.. if u substitute dis u wil get the ans....:) - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
