a string of pearls such that 1/3 is lost and of that 1/4th is missing, remaining is 20 then actual number of pearls?
ans. 40
Read Solution (Total 8)
-
- at first 1/3 is lost so remaining is 1-1/3==2/3
After that 1/4 is missing of 2/3 ==(2/3)*1/4 ===1/6
remaining === 3 / 6
so 3x/6 == 20
x===40(ans) - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(3)
- Let total Number of pearls be x
number of pearls lost = x/3
number of pearls missing = x/4
remaining = 20
==> x = x/3 + x/4 + 20
==> x = (4x+3x)/12 + 20
==> x = (7x + 240) / 12
==> 12x = 7x + 240
==> 5x = 240
==> x = 240/5 = 48 !!
therefore total number of pearls originally is 48 ! - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- Let number of pearls be x
as 1/3 are lost ----> x-x/3=2x/3 are remaining.
as 1/4 of remaining are missing ----> (2x/3)*(1/4)=x/6.
Total (NO PEARLS COUNT)= x/6
Remaining (PRESENT PEARLS COUNT)=(2x/3)-(x/6)=x/2.
from Given x/2=20 ----- > x=40. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- {x-1/3}/3/4=20
coz 1/4th of it is lost so 3/4 is left - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(7)

- Ans is 48 X/3+X/4+20=X so X=48

- Let the no pearl =x
and the lost pearl is =((1/3)*x)
so the remaining pearl is x-((1/3)*x)=2x/3
of the remaining pearl 1/4 is missing so (2x/3)-((1/4)*(2x/3)=3x/6
now 3x/6=20
so x=40 ans
