All faces of a cube with an 8meter edge are painted red.if the cube is cut into smaller cubes with a 2 meter edge. how many of two meter cubes have paint on exacly one face ??
please explain in detail with ol the logics used. .

  for cube with all faces painted:
  if edge of the big cube is N, and of smaller cubes formed from it, each having an edge of n,
  1. then total number of small cubes formed from it are: (N/n)^3
  2. for 3 faces painted: Answer is 8 (always)
  3. for 2 faces painted: 12 X (N-2n)/n
  4. for 1 face painted: 6 X (N-2n)^2/n
  5. for 0 face painted: (N-2n)^3/n

• farmula for cubes 1 side painted for a cube of edge n unit when cut with 1 unit edge =(n-2)^2*6
  here n=4 as it is cut wid 2 meter edge
  so ans=(4-2)^2*6=24

• i found the same answer 24 with cube having 8 meter edge and the smaller cubes having 1 m edge....doesnt the increase in size makes the difference????
