There is a church tower 150 feet tall and another catholic tower at a distance of 350 feet from it which is 200 feet tall. There is one each bird sitting on top of both the towers. They fly at a constant speed and time to reach a grain in b/w the towers at the same time. At what distance from the church is the grain?

- If x ft is the distance of grain from 200 ft tall tower, then
150^2 +(350-x)^2= 200^2 + x^2
then
x= 150 mtrs - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(31) No(18)
- answer must be 200mt as i think.......

- I'm going to guess that the grain is on the ground.
Then the distance each bird flies is the hypotenuse formed by the triangle
with one leg their building and the other the distance to the grain.
Let x = distance grain is from the church, then
350 - x = distance from the Catholic tower
Using the Pythagorean Theorem:
distance the bird on the church flies = √(x^2 + 150^2)
......................................… + 22,500)
distance the bird on the Catholic tower flies = √[(350-x)^2 + 200^2]
......................................… √(122,500 - 700x + x^2 + 40,000)
......................................… √(x^2 - 700x +162,500)
d=r*t, but you said that their rates were constant and they arrived at the same time,
That means whatever faster rate the Catholic bird flew at it was enough to make
the distances seem to be equal.
√(x^2 + 22,500 = √(x^2 - 700x + 162,500)....square both sides to remove radical
x^2 + 22,500 = x^2 - 700x + 162,500............get = to 0 by subtracting the left side
-700x + 140,000 = 0......................................g… x-term alone by subtracting140,000
-700x = -140,000
x = 200 ft is the distance from the church - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(0)
- logically it Folllows pyhtagoras theroem but looking to question bird at shortest tower must cover largest distance to reach in same time at same speed..
(150^2+x^2)^1/2=(200^2+y^2)^1/2
150=y
200=x
so from smallest tower largest distance IE 200 ans - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(5)

- If x ft is the distance of grain from 150 ft tall tower, then (350-x) ft is the distance from 200 ft wall..so
apply pythagoras theorem,we have
150^2 + x^2= 200^2 + (350-x)^2
solve it
ans:200 ft

- If x ft is the distance of grain from church tower, then 350-x from another tower. Speed & time r constant then distance are also constant so,apply pythagorous formula we get....
150^2 +(x)^2= 200^2 + (350-x)^2
x= 200 mtrs. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
