  jack save=5x-3x=2000 so x=1000
  jack income=5x=5*1000= 5000 ans.
  wife save 3x-x=2000 so x=1000
  wife income=3x=3*1000=3000 ans.

• let jack income is 5x and expenditure is 3x . and his wife income is 3y and y .he saves equally and total 4000. then 2x(jack's save) + 2y(wife's save) = 4000.
  so 2x = 2000then x = 1000. and y=1000.
  then income is 5000 and 3000.

  5x-3y=4000
  3x-y=3000
  solving simultaneously
  x=2000.
