Age Problem
the mean age of a combined group of men and women is 25yrs.if the mean age of the group of men is 26 and that of the group of women is 21,then the percentage of men and women in the group is?
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- Ans % of Men=80 and Women=20
If the number of men=m and women=w, Total age of men & women=26m+21w
Given,Combined Mean Age=25= 26m+21w/(m+w)
25m+25w=26m+21w -->4w=m or m/w=4/1
Therefore % of men=80 and women=20 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(30) No(2)
- By alligation method, ratio of men to women is 4:1.

- Suppose,
there are 2 women
so, there mean = (21+21) / 2 = 21
total mean of men and women = 25
so, we need 4 year per women so that mean will be equal to 25
for 2 women we need 8 years
mean of men = 26
if we take mean of 8 men and 2 women then overall mean will be 25 years
%age of men = 80
%age of women = 20 - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- suppose there are x women and 100-x men
the mean age of combined group is given as 25, hence this can be solved like this:
(26(100-x)+21x)/100=25
2600-26x+21x=2500
2600-2500=5x
100/5=x
20=x i.e the number of women
and 100-x=80 i.e number of men - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
