Age Problem
Mr. Roy is twelve years more than twice the age of his son at present. After twelve years, he will be thrice as old as his son. What is the age of Mr.Roy at present?
Read Solution (Total 13)
-
- Let son's age be x
then roy's age =2x+12
aftr 12yrs, son's age=x+12 & roy's age=2x+12+12
thn we get the eqtn as
3(x+12)=2x+12+12
x = 12
hence roy's age = 36 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(37) No(22)
- I think Given data is wrong.
Pls check. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(28) No(14)
- Let age of son be x
So age of Mr. Roy = 12+2x
After 12 years
age of son = x+12
age of Mr. Roy = 12+2x+12
Given age of Mr Roy = 3*age of son
12+2x+12=3*(x+12)
x= 12
Age of Mr Roy= 36 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(4)
- let r is the age of roy and s be the age of his son
then r=12+2s
r+12=3s
substitute (1)in (2)
12+2s+12=3s
24+2s=3s
24=s
then age of r is r=12+2*24
r=12+48
r=60 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(24)
- At present,son be x and Roy be 2x+12
After 12 yr,
son=x+12 and Roy=(2x+12)+12
3(x+12)=2x+24
x=12 i.e. son=12 and Roy=36yr - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(3)
- @ Rani,
Please check.
After 12 years,
age of Roy will be R+12 and age of son will be S+12.
As per given condition
R+12= 3*(S+12)
and not
R+12=3S - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(1)
- i think the given data is wrong. when you equate 3(x+12)=2x+12+12
you get x as -12
so its wrong - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(1)
- question is wrong. by solving the equation ,x is coming -12.,which is impossible.!!!!!!!

- given data is wrong.
3(x+12)=2x+24
3x+36=2x+24
x= -36+24 = -12 which is not possible

- son=x, roy=2x+12
after 12yr. son=x+12,roy=2x+12+12
now, 2x+12+12=3(x+12)
2x+24=3x+36
x=-12
and age cant b negative....so some data is missing...

- Let mr.roy= R and son =S
R=2S+12
R-2S=12. -EQ-1
R+12=((12+2S)+12)×3
R-6S=60. Eq-2
By solving eq 1 and 2 we get-
R=36 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
