Mr. Roy is twelve years more than twice the age of his son at present. After twelve years, he will be thrice as old as his son. What is the age of Mr.Roy at present?

  then roy's age =2x+12
  aftr 12yrs, son's age=x+12 & roy's age=2x+12+12
  thn we get the eqtn as
  3(x+12)=2x+12+12
  x = 12
  hence roy's age = 36

  age of Roy will be R+12 and age of son will be S+12.
  As per given condition
  R+12= 3*(S+12)
  and not
  R+12=3S

• i think the given data is wrong. when you equate 3(x+12)=2x+12+12
  you get x as -12
  so its wrong

  x= -36+24 = -12 which is not possible

  after 12yr. son=x+12,roy=2x+12+12
  now, 2x+12+12=3(x+12)
  2x+24=3x+36
  x=-12
  and age cant b negative....so some data is missing...
