exam Maths Puzzle Numerical Ability

Solve the equation:

sqrtx+4 = 3

I tried to keep this seperated because the square root is x + 4.

I am going to assume I need to make X equal the 3 leaving me with this:
X= -1
sqrt-1+4 = 3
Is this the right process?

Can you please help me with this? I have no idea how to work these.

(3x squared - 7x + 5)+(-2x squared + 7x - 8)

(5y squared - 3y + 4)-(3y squared - 7y + 2)
solve 4/x+ 2 - 1/6x = 2/6x^2 + 12x I got 1/6
