the cost of a piece of diamond varies as the square of its weight. A diamond of cost 5184 is cut into 3 pieces whose weight are in the ratio of 1:2:3. Find the loss involved in cutting.

It is divided into 1gm , 2gm and 3gm
cost price ∝ w^2
=> C1 = 5184 / 36 = rs 144 , C2 = 5184*4/36 = Rs 576 , C3 = 5184*9 / 36 =Rs 1296
C1 + C2 + C3 = 2016
=> Loss = 5184 - 2016 = Rs 3168
