imagine that you are stuck in a cave,you have 2 ropes and a matchbox to light fire.each rope takes 60 minutes full to completely burn..you have no instrument to measure the time..but you have to come out of the cave exactly after 45 minutes how will you do it???

Ist Rope = R1
2nd Rope =R2
Burn R1 from both End at the same time burn R2 to one end.
Since R1 completely Burn in 60 minutes(if it burns from one end only)
if we burn it from both ends it takes 30 minutes.At the same time R2 is burned half(because we burned the both rope at the same time)

As the R1 burns completely ..burn R2 from second end(since we left only one Rope R2 and we calculate 30 minutes from R1)
the time taken by R2 to burn completely is 15 minutes

hence
30 minutes + 15 minutes = 45 minutes
