A "CD" player having a price tag of Rs. 900 is sold for rs. 729 after 2 successive discounts. if the first discount was 10%, then what was the second discount ?

• 900*10%= 900*10/100 = 90 rupees
  
  So Reduce 90 rupees..i.e 810
  
  Now 810 - 729 = 81,
  we have to convert 81 rupees in the terms of discount % on 810.
  
  81/810 *100 = 10%.
  
  So second discount is 10%, and total discount is 20%

  now according to formula..
  -x- y+( x*y)/100= - d
  (we take here negative sign because there is discount)
  => -10 -y + 10y/100 = -19
  => - y + y/10 = -19 + 10
  => -9y/10 = -9
  => so, y=10%

  900*(90/100)*[(100-x)/100] = 729
  81*(100-x)=7290, x=10

  900*10%= 900*10/100 = 90 rupees
  
  So Reduce 90 rupees.....!! So discount amount after 1st discount was 810.
  Further to find second discount percentage...!
  Now 810 - 729 = 81,
  second discount Amount was 81.
  we have to convert 81 rupees in the terms of discount % on 810.
  
  (discount amount / amount after 1st discount ) * 100 = second discount percentage...
  (81/810) * 100 = 10%.
