Numerical Ability
a precious stone worth rupees 10872 fell and broke into three pieces, the weights of which are proportional to 1:2:3. the value of each stone is directly proportional to the square of it weight. find the loss in the value caused by the breakage?
Read Solution (Total 2)

- 6644 Rs.
Let the weight of original stone=x, so x^2=10872, x=Sqrt(10872)
Weights of three pieces (in proportional to 1:2:3) will be Sqrt(10872)/6 , Sqrt(10872)*2/6 and Sqrt(10872)*3/6 respectively
So their values will be [Sqrt(10872)/6]^2 , [Sqrt(10872)*2/6]^2 and [Sqrt(10872)*3/6]^2 respectively
Sum of new values=(10872/36)+(10872*4/36)+(10872*9/36)=10872*14/36=4228
Loss in value=10872-4228=6644 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- 36x^2=10872 x^2= 302 after breaking total price = 14x^2=14*302, loss =6644
