In a clock (Conventional clock with numbers 1 to 12 in order)is cut into 3 pieces such that the sum of each piece in AP with a common difference of 1. What is the count of numbers in each piece? and what are the numbers?

- Sum of the 12 numbers=1+2+3+......+12=12*13/2=78
So we have to divide it into 3 slots such that the sum is 78 and sum of each slot is in AP, thus the 3 slots are 25,26,27. So the numbers can be:
3+4+5+6+7=25
8+9+10=27
11+12+1+2=26 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(0)
- In a clock there are total of 78 hrs..by dividing it by 3 we get 26..i.e., 26,26,26
with Arithmetic Progression(AP) difference of 1 means have to divide that as 25,26,27
Three parts are
1st part : 10,9,8
2nd part : 11,12,1,2
3rd part : 3,4,5,6,7
so that we can get the sum values of pieces at AP with the common difference of 1.
Hence total hours in the bigger part is 25 hrs

- first..remind that there is no saying that cut should be equal...so divide the clock into 3 pieces ...following this way..(3+4+5+6+7),(11+12+1+2),(8+9+10)...u will find that these sum are in A.P...& the common diff. is 1

- cp of 1m= 40000/400 = 100rs
sp of 1m = 200/(3/2) = 400/3 rs
%gain = sp-cp / cp= ((400/3)- 100)/100 X 100 = 100/3 X 100 = 33.33%
