There is a lot of speculation that the economy of a country depends on how fast people spend their money ,in addition to how much they save.Auggie was very curious to test this theory .

(a) 250 (b) 252 (c) 120 (d) 248

- answer is 248.
go through options.
am explaining only one,
taking 248, auggie spent one half of what he had when he went in
means in first shop he spent half of 248 that is 124 and 4 rs more means total=128
in second, he had rest 120 rs. spent 60+4=64
in third he had 120-64=56, means 28+4=32
in fourth he had 56-32=24 then there he spent 12+4=16
rest he had 8 rs, then he spent half of 8 that is 4 then 4 rs more=8
in this he spent money - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(22) No(0)
- To have spent all his money, he must have had $8 when he entered store #5 since he had to spend 1/2 of his total, plus $4 to spend everything.
To end up with $8, we add $4 and double (8+4)*2=$24 when he entered store #4
Same formula: ($24+4)*2=$56 when he entered #3
($56+4)*2=$120 when he entered #2
($120+4)*2=$248 when he entered store #1.
So Auggie entered the first store with $248.

- As he has spent all his money, He must spend Rs.8 in the final store.
a simple equation works like this. Amount left =
1
2
x
−
4
12x−4
For fifth store this is zero. So x = 8. That means he entered fifth store with 8.
Now for fourth store, amount left = 8 so
1
2
x
−
4
=
8
⇒
12x−4=8⇒ x = 24
For third store, amount left = 24 so
1
2
x
−
4
=
24
⇒
12x−4=24⇒ x = 56
For Second store, amount left = 56 so
1
2
x
−
4
=
56
⇒
12x−4=56⇒ x = 120
For first store, amount left = 120 so
1
2
x
−
4
=
120
⇒
12x−4=120⇒ x = 248
So he entered first store with 248. - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
