There are 100 wine glasses. I offered my servant to 3 paise for every broken glass to be delivered safely and forfeit 9 paisa for every glass broken at the end of day. He recieved Rs.2.40 .how many glass did he break

• its assume that total number of glass delivered safely is x and for broken is y.
  so he receive 2.40 finally .
  so 3x-9y=2.40 ---------------------------(1)
  x+y=100 ------------------------------------(2)
  solving above 2 equation we get x=95 and y=5.
  so he breaks only 5 glasses on the way.

  Thus, the total no of glasses that did not break will be (100-x).
  Rs 2.40 = 240 paise.
  3*(100-x) - 9*x = 240.
  300 - 3x - 9x = 240.
  60 = 12x.

• If servent deliver 1 glass safely then he got 3 paise. If he deliver 100 glass with safty then he got 100*3=300 =3.00 rupee
  But he got 2.40rupee means 240 paise
  So 60 paise is deducted for breaking the glass 60/9=6.4
  so servant break 6 glasses
