The figure below shows a “size 3” equilateral triangle divided up into 9
“size 1 “equilateral triangles. The figure has 6 upward facing and 3 downward facing “size1”equilateral triangles, 3 upward facing and no downward facing
“size 3 “ triangle. It has a total of 13 equilateral triangles of all sizes.
The following size 6 triangle is divided up in the same way. What is the sum of the number of up facing size 2 triangles and the number of upward facing size 4 triangles?
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- up facing size 2 triangles = 15
up facing size 4 triangles = 6

- Solution : 18
Size 3 is divided into 6 upward facing size1 triangle and as it has 13 equilateral triangle it is obvious that there are 3 size to triangle in it
Thus in size 6 triangle there are 6 size 4 triangle
size 3 triangle has 6 (i.e.,3*2) size1 upward facing triangle
thus size 6 triangle has 6*2=12 size 2 triangle
Therefore 6+12=18. - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
