A man goes upstream for a distance of 10 km in 5 hours.Another man goes downstream for a distance of 10 km in 3 hrs.What is the difference bw their speed ,if speed of river is 0.5 km/hr?(round answer to two decimal places)

• 10/x-0.5=5, solving we get x=1.5.
  10/x+0.5=3, solving we get x=2.83. So difference b/w speed is 1.33 definetely...

  speed of man upstream will be 2.5km/h which becomes 2km/h
  speed of man downstream will be 3.33km/h which becomes 2.83km/h
  so difference is 0.33

  0.5+x=(10/5)
  X=1.5
  X-0.5=(10/3)
  X=3.83
  So the difference is 2.33

  speed of man upstream=10/5=2km/hr
  net speed upstream=2-0.5=1.5km/hr
  speed of man downstream=10/3=3.33km/hr
  net speed downstream=3.33+0.5=3.83
  So diff. in speed=3.83-1.5=2.33

  A goes upstream so u-0.5=10/5=5/2
  Another goes downstream so u+0.5=10/3=17/6
  difference between their speed= 17/6-5/2=1/3=0.33
