Ratio and Proportion
Two candles of the same height are lighted at the same time. The first is consumed in 8hours and the second in 6hours. Assuming that each candle burns at a constant rate, in how many hours after being lighted, the ratio between the first and second candles becomes 2:1.
Read Solution (Total 1)

- 4 4/5 hr.
First candle burns @ 1/8 per hour and Second @ 1/6 per hour
If after 't' hour the ratio between first and second candle becomes 2:1, then
[1-(t/8)] /[1-(t/6)]=2/1 or (8-t)/8 / (6-t)/6 =2/1, t=24/5 =4 4/5 hr. or 4 hr. 48 min. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(1)
