a mother her little daughter and her just born infant boy together stood on a weighing machine which shows 74kgs.how much does the daughter weigh if the mother weighs 46kg more than the combined weight of daughter and the infant and the infant weighs 60% less than the daughter a)9 b)11 c)cannot be determined d)10
Read Solution (Total 8)
-
- daughter weight is x
infant weight is 60% less than daughter i.e., 0.4x
mother weight is (x+0.4x+46)
total weight = x + 0.4x + (x+0.4X+46) = 74
solving the eq. x = 10
option d is correct - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(2)
- let daughter wgt is x,
so infant wgt is x-60%of x => x-3x/5 = 2x/5
mother age is = 46 + x+2x/5 = 46+7x/5
total age is =>
46+7x/5 + x+2x/5 = 74
so x =10

- here given weights of mother+daughter+boy=74kgs----eq1
mother=daughter+boy+46----eq2
boy=daughter - 60%daughter
=0.4daughter--eq3
putting the value eq1 and eq3in eq1
daughter=10

- let daughter weight D,mother M and infant I.
given D+M+I=74;-----------(1)
now M=D+I+46------(2)
& I=2/5D-(3)
substitute this value in (1)
2D+4D/5=38
D=10 :)

- you are right buddy!

- let the wait of mother daughter and infant be M , D , C repectively
therefore M + D + C = 74 ...... .. (1)
and M = 46 + C + D........... (2)
as C is 60% less than D
=> c = 0.4D ......... (3)
solving above equation we get D = 10.

- Let daughter’s weight be x.
Also, Infant’s weight is 60% less than daughter i.e 0.4x
Mother’s weight :
(x + 0.4x + 46)
Total weight = x + 0.4x + (x+0.4x+46) = 74
2.8x = 28
x = 10 - 7 Months agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
