Two identical circles intersect so that their centres. and the points at which the’ uitersect. form a square of side 1 cm. The area in sq. cm of the portion that is common to the two circles is:
Options are;
1)squareroot(5)
2)4
3)pi/2-1
4)squareroot(2)-1

- draw picture first
add the area of sector for both circle and then subtract the area of square
pi/4+pi/4-1=pi/2-1 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- we had a formula for finding area of the sector.
A= n/360 * pi .r^2
where n is the angle made by the cord with center..
here it is making 90 degrees hence A=90/360 * pi.1 (i.e r=1)
A=pi/4
same for second cirle A=pi/4
if we want to get area with in the interscting area we need to find.
( area of both the sectors- area of the square)
pi/4+pi/4-1
=pi/2-1 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
- option 3, i.e pi/2 -1
