A man goes upstream for a distance of 10 km ni 5 hrs. Another man goes downstream the same distance of
10 kms in 3 hhs. what is the differenece of speed of 2 men if the river speed is 0.5 kmph’
options are
2.45/1.33/2.3/1.56
Read Solution (Total 13)
-
- 10km/5hrs=2km/h
10km/3hrs=10/3km/h=3.33km/hr
river speed=0.5
so speed of the man going upstream =2+.5=2.5 & speed of the man going downstream = 3.33-0.5=2.83
so difference of speed=2.83-2.5=0.33 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(14) No(28)
- 0.5+x for down stream
0.5 -x for up stream
So s=d/t
0.5+x=10/3......(1)
0.5-x=10/5.......(2)
Solving 1 and 2 eq. We get x =17/6
And x = 3/2
Difference of both is 1.33.
Ans is 1.33 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(7)
- In upstream resultant speed=2-0.5=1.5kmph
In down stream resultant Speed=3.33+0.5=3.83kmph
difference of speeds=2.35kmph - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(2)
- b)1.33
Time =Distance/Speed
so here,
1st step
T(up_stream)=Distace/(x-y)
5=10/(x-0.5)
5x-2.5=10
x=1.50
2nd step
3=10/(x-0.5)
3x-1.5=10
x=2.83
so diff in speed of two men is 2.83-1.50=1.33 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(3)

- ans are not correct it should be 0.33
for downstrm speed (10-(.5*3))/3=2.83
for upstrm (10+(.5*5))/5=2.50
so diff= 0.33

- as man A speed is 10/5 kmph i.e 2 kmph.........man B speed is 10/3=3.33 kmph.......then diffenece of speed of two man is 1.33

- Let speed of boat in which man is sitting is X
And speed of river is Y
So, upstream speed=dist/time =10/5=2
Downstream speed =10/3= 3.33
So The man who is going upstream with the speed of river 0.5 =2-0.5=1.5
The man who is going upstream with the speed of river 0.5 =X+Y(speed of river)=3.33+.5=3.83
Difference is =3.83-1.5=2.33 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)

- Given,
Speed of the current (v) = 0.5 km/hr
Distance (d) = 10 km
Time (for 1st traveler) = 5 hrs
Time (for 2nd traveler) = 3 hrs
Let speed of boat upstream (1st traveler) = u km/hr
Let speed of boat downstream (2nd traveler) = w km/hr
1st traveler rows upstream (i.e. against the current)
Therefore, his speed = u - 0.5
Also, this speed = 10 / 5 = 2 km/hr
Thus, u - 0.5 = 2
u = 2 + 0.5 = 2.5 km/hr .......... (i)
2nd traveler rows downstream (i.e. towards the current)
Therefore, his speed = w + 0.5
Also, the speed = 10 / 3 km/hr
Thus, w + 0.5 = 10 / 3
w = 2.83 km/hr .......... (ii)
Difference between (i) and (ii) :
2.5 ~ 2.83 = 0.33 km/hr .......... (Answer) - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
