If a pipe can fill the tank within 6hrs.But due to leak it takes 30 min more. Now
the tank is full then how much time will it take to empty the tank through the
leak?

- hi guys,
given that it takes 6 hours for the pipe to fill the tank
so in 1 hour it can fill =1/6
but because of leak it takes 30 min more i.e (6+1/2) hours =13/2.
so in 1 hour pipe+ leak can fill= 2/13
finally pipe=1/6
pipe+leak=2/13
leak=1/6-2/13 =1/78
leak can alone do in 78 hours. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(36) No(1)

- work done in 1 hr = 1/6 ( without leakage)
let the work done by leak in 1 hr be 1/x.
therefore 1/6 - 1/x = 2/13 { (6+ 1/2)}
=> 1/x = 1/78
therefore time taken by leak to empty the tank = 78 hrs. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- 78 hours
Say the tank capacity is 1000 ltrs, the filling flow rate is 166.66 ltr/hr. If it take 30 minutes more means the leakage is 12.81 ltr/hr. So it will take 78 hours to empty 1000 ltrs

- Since the pipe leaks at a rate of 1/x of the tank per hour, we see that:
1/6 - 1/x = 1/6.5 ==> x-6/6x=1/6.5==>6.5x-6.5*6=6x==>0.5x=39
x=39/0.5==>x=78

- hi guys
lets take the work is 100% which is complited in 6 hr
so 1hr work is 16.66%
but it takes extra 30mins means (which is 6.66%)
1hr work will became10%(so 10hr
but the leakage rate is 6.66%
so total time to drainout is 100/6.66=15hr - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)

- work done in 1hr to fill the tank=1/6
time taken by pipe to fill the tank=6hr
due to leakage , time taken to fill the tank=6hr+30mins(A/Q)
work done(pipe+ leakage )to fill the tank=1/6.5
time taken to empty tank=1/6-1/6.5
= 1/78
=78hrs - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- The time taken to empty the tank formula =x(x+t) /t
X =a pipe can full the tank
T = leakage
X=6,t=30mins covert into hrs 30/60=1/2
6(6+1/2)/(1/2)=78hrs - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Let the capacity of tank=6 Litres
So,6 L in 6 hours=>1 L in i hour
Given that ,Due to leakage it take 30 mins more time.
Leakage in 30 mins=1/2 litre(Because 1L in 1 hour)
Read the question carefully. They given that the tank is now full.
So, We need to calculate the time required to empty it.
For 1/2 hour=> 1/2 Litre.
For 1 hour= 1 Litre.
So, For 6 litres= 6Hours.
So, Answer= 6 Hours - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
