• Let the original avg expenditure be Rs x. Then,
  55(x-3)-42x=31 after solving we get x=10.3
  So original expenditure is = 42*10.3=Rs 432.6

  Original expenditure of mess--> 42x
  When students incr to 55 avg expenditure per head --> y= x-3
  Expenditure of mess--> 55y= 42x+31
  Solving both eqns v obtain x=15.076
  So ans is 42*15.076=633.23

  Average exp. per head = x/42
  aftr 13 students added..total no of students = 13 + 42 = 55
  Average expenditure per hear = x/42 - 3
  Now,
  (x/42-3)*55 = x + 31
  x=630
