Choice (a) if the question can be answered by using one of the statements alone, but cannot be answered by using the other statement alone.
Choice (b) if the question can be answered by using either statement alone.
Choice (c) if the question can be answered by using both the statements together, but cannot beanswered by using either statement alone.
Choice (d) if the question cannot be answered even by using both the statements together.
Is x+y> √2 ? (The square root of 2)
1)x^2 + y^2 =1
2)x= log a base b and y =log b base a ,where a,b,x,y are positive real number and a & b is not equal is 1

- Answer. C
1. x+y= √ (x^2 + y^2 + 2.x.y) . We can get x^2 + y^2 from ....(1) But to get x.y we have to use ....(2)
2. x=1/y (logarithm base rule) => x.y=1
So from (1) and (2) we get [ x+y = √3 ] > √2 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(2)
- sqrt((x+y)^2)=x+y
=>sqrt(x^2+y^2+2xy)=x+y
=>sqrt(1+2xy)=x+y
from question:
x=1/y (log a base b= (1/log b base a))
=>sqrt(1+2)=x+y
x+y=sqrt(3)
=> Option C - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)

- we cant use the both statements together because if x=1/y the x^2 + y^2 which is x^2 + (1/x)^2 is always greater than 2 hence can't be 1.
So only the statement 2 can give that x + y >sqrt(2) - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
Elitmus Other Question
Six persons P, Q, R, S, T and U are sitting around a circular table facing towards the centre of the table in a restaurant. They have ordered for different
items rasgulla, strawberry, vanilla, mango, pastries and burfi as their lunch. They are wearing shirts of different colours i.e. white, black, green, red, yellow
and blue. Order of items for the lunch and colours of shirts are not necessarily according to the order of their names.
● The persons who have ordered for rasgulla, vanilla and pastries are neither in white shirt nor in black shirt.
● The persons who are in green and yellow shirts have neither ordered for Rasgulla nor for Vanilla.
● P is neither in white shirt nor on the immediate left of the person who has order for mango.
● The only person who is between T and U eats strawberry. The person who is on the left side of the person in white shirt does not eat burfi.
● S has ordered for mango and the color of his shirt is green. He is facing the person who has ordered for strawberry.
● One who has ordered for rasgulla is seated opposite to the person wearing the blue shirt, while the person who wear the shirt of green color is on the
left of the person who has ordered for pastries.
● One who has ordered for burfi is on the immediate right of the person in white shirt but on the immediate left of the person who has ordered for
vanilla.
● R has not ordered for vanilla while U has not ordered for rasgulla.
if 1/a + 1/b + 1/c = 1/(a+b+c) where a+b+c !=(not equals) 0, abc != 0 , then what is the value of (a+b) (b+c) (c+a)?
a)equal to 0
b) greater than 0
c) less than 0
d) can't determine
