A farmer has a farm and he wanted to cnstrct a fence in a straight path.. he planned in this way that the distance between consequent poles is 14 (with 1 and last pole fixed) and he bought some poles but found that they are 6 less than the poles he estimated before.
but he found that if he keeps the distance of 21 btween the poles then it would make his fence..
so how many poles he bought?
Read Solution (Total 6)

- let he bought x no of poles then totlal distance covered is 14x but he is sort of 6b poles hence rewmaining distance to be covered is =14*6. so total distance to be fenced is 14x+(14*6). but if puts those poles at 21 distance then itcovers all the distance .hence total distance is= 21*x .equating both eqn and solving for x u will get 12

- It was mentioned that two of the poles will be fixed at two extremes of the wall so if we consider that farmer has bought x poles then with the distance of 21 btwn poles, the total distance would be 21*(x-1). similarly if 6 poles were less than the estimated, then with the distance 14 in this case, the total distance becomes 14*{(x+6)-1}. now as the distance of side of farm is constant, equating those equations we get solution : total number of poles he bought, x=13. I guess 13 was not in those options because i remember left it as a dummy question

- Let x be no. poles
as the distance between poles is 14 total distance is 14(x-1) [ since |_|_| 3poles 14*(3-1) distance ]
Now,poles are reduced to 6 so, no. of poles are (x-6)
he found that he can place them with 21 space between poles i.e. 21(x-7)
Here distance is same,
i.e.,
21(x-7)=14(x-1)
it is just an assumption please ignore if it wrong - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
- i think its nt about distance.. i think we have to solve by using progressions..

- I do not ans this, Due to lengthy question.

- let number of poles be x.
length of farm will be same
=> 14(x+6)=21x
=>x=12
