17. A, B, C, D and E are five consecutive odd numbers. The sum of A and C is 146. What is the value of E?
Read Solution (Total 7)
-
- E=79
As A,B,C,D & E are five consecutive odd numbers ,where B=A+2, C=A+4, D=A+6, E=A+8
Given A+C=146, As C=A+4, so 2A+4=146 or A=71
So value of E=79 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- lets take A as x so C is x+2, so x+x+2=2x+2=146, i.e 2x=144,
So x=72. So since E is x+4 so E is 76. - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- Consecutive odd numbers A=x+1,B=x+3,C=x+5,D=x+7,E=x+9 ,
A+D=x+1+x+5
2x+6=146
2x=140=>x=70
E=x+9=>70+9=>79 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Consider a to be x and the sequence will be like x x+2 x+4 x+6 and so on
Given a+c = 146.
That is x+x+4= 146
2x = 142 and x is 71
Thus sequence is 71 73 75 77 79
And hence E is equal to 79 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- E= 79
let the 5 no's be n,n+2, n+4,n+6,n+8 = A, B, C, D, E respectively.
A+C= n+n+4= 2n+4=146
n=71
so, E=79

- X + (X+2) + (X+4) + (X+4) + (X+6) + (X+8)
Now X + (X+4) = 146 given
So X = 71
Value of E is 79. - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- answer is 79.
