A man can row 8 km/hr in still water. If the river is running at 3 km/hr, it takes 3 hours more in upstream than to go downstream for the same distance. How far is the place?

Speed of man in still water= 8 km/hr ,Speed of stream=3 km/hr
So upstream speed=8-3=5 km/hr and downstream speed=8+3=11 km/hr
If distance a man rows=x km, then
Given, Time taken for upstream=3+ Time taken for downstream
x/5 =3+ (x/11)
x=27.5

Take d as distance.

=> d/(8+3) - d/(8-3) = 3

=> d=55/2 = 27.5 KM

The time difference between upstream and downstream is 3hr so,
Downstream = u +v = 8+3= 11
Upstream = 8-3=5 ,
Now,we know s=d/t , so t=d/s
D=x
x/5 - x/11 = 3 ,by solving
6x = 55 * 3
x= 27.5
