Age Problem
P says to Q "I am thrice as old as you were when i was as old as you are". If the sum of their present age is 100 years, then the present age of Q?
Read Solution (Total 13)

- P Q
Past x y
Present 3y x
The above stated ages are unnderstood if the question is clear to you.
Now, Sum of their present ages is 100 so,
3y+x=100;
And since equal no. of years has passed between the Past and Present, so
3y-x=x-y;
On solvinf these two equations we get
x=40, y=20.
So present age of Q is 40(i.e. x) and P is 60(i.e. 3y). - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(8)
- 25 because p+q=100 so p=3q on sub this we get q as 25

- let the present age of q be x
the age of q years back(to be defined) is x/3
as the age of p will be x by then .
Years passed= x-x/3=2x/3(subtracting age of q)
so p acurrent age is x+2x/3
and q current age is x
adding them to 100
we get x =37.5

- P = 3 ( Q - ( P - Q ) )
P = 3 ( Q - P +Q )
P = 3 ( 2Q - P ) EQUATION 1
P + Q = 100 EQUATION 2
ON SOLVING - P = 60 , Q = 40

- P=3[Q-(P-Q)]
P=6Q-3P
P=3/2Q--------------(1)
P+Q=100-----------(2)
sub:(1)in (2)
3/2Q+Q=100
5Q=200
Q=40
P=60 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Let present age of P = x
Of Q= 100-x(since sum of their ages is 100)
difference between their ages = x - (100 -x) = 2x - 100 ----> (1)
when P’s age was 100 - x
Q’s Age must be (P’s age - their age difference)
Q’s past age = (100-x) - (2x - 100) = 200 - 3x
it is given that P present age is thrice the Q’s past age:
=> x = 3(200 - 3x)
10x = 600
value of x, P current age = 60 and Q current age =40 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)

- i)p is 3 times older than q,
ii)Then sum of present ages be p+q=100
Take the statement (i) assuming q=25,
p+25=100
p=75,q=25
Here statement (i) comes p=75 is 3 times high than q=25 (i.e 25*3=75) - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
