ABCD IS A square AEGF IS A rectangle..such that the rectangle shares 25% of the area of the suare ALSO AE lies ON THE LINE AB and AG lies on segment of AD.if the square shares half the area of the rectangle what is the ratio AE:AG?

  remaining Square 75% and remaining rectangle 50%
  
  Rectangle share 25% area of Square so,
  AB X AG = (AD X AB)/4
  AD = 4 AG------------------(1)
  
  Square share Half the area of Rectangle So,
  AG X AB = (AE X AG)/2
  AB = AE/2------------------(2)
  
  in square all sides are equal i.e. AB=BC=CD=AD so, equation (1) and (2) both are equal
  AE/2 = 4 AG
  AE/AG = 8
  AE : AG = 8:1 Ans.

• As mentioned in question AE is on line and AG is on line "segment" so, figure can be drawn....
  Now ,,,,,
  First the question is saying rec sahres 25% are of square.... That gives us
  AB X AG = 1/4(AD X AB)
  From this we get .....
  AD=4AG.............. eq1
  Now the question is saying square shares half area of rec....so..
  AE X AG = 2(AB X AG)
  This gives..
  AE/2=AB.....eq2
  Now as ABCD is square.... AB=AD...
  So...
  AE/2=4AG...
  AE:AG = 8:1....
  This should be the ans....according to me. :)

• Let’s assume side of square is x
  and side of rectangle is y
  We know that A, B & E are Collinear , so our square & rectangle position with we like this

  Let’s assume side of square is x=AB=BC=DC=AD
  and other side of rectangle is y=AG=EF
  
  According to condition, if A, B & E are in same line and rectangle share 50 % of its area with square than means
  Rectangle ABOG=BEFO and from it we can make that AB=BE=x as we assumed.
  
  Square area = x^2
  Rectangle area = (2*x)*y…(because AE=2*x)
  Cond 1) 25 % area of square shared with rectangle,
  Cond2) 50% area of rectangle shared with square,
  So by these condition we can conclude that 25% of square area equals with 50% of rectangle’s area,
  Putting these we get, (x^2)/4={(2*x)*y}/2
  =>x=4*y………………(i)
  
  Need to FIND : AE/AG => (2*x)/y
  Put eq (i) into this, (2*4*y)/y=8
  Answer = 8 units

• After the diagram which is drawn below,the question wants the ratio of length and breadth.
  So suppose the side of square is a. Therefore the breadth of rectangle is a/4 and length will be 2a. So the ratio is 8:1 (length: breadth)
