LCM and HCF
The HCF and LCM of two numbers are 12 and 72 respectively. If the sum of two numbers is 60, then one of the number is
(A) 24
(B) 36
(C) Either (A) or (B)
(D) Can't be determined
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- let numbers be x nad y
lcm*hcf=product of two numbers
12*72=864=xy
x+y=60..so by checking those two will be 24 and 36..so answer will be C..either A or B - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- let no are p & q
as we know:
lcm*hcf=Product of two no
12*72=p*q
pq=864
and
p+q=60
hence we get no will be 24 or 36
hence c option is right answer - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- factorise HCF
12=2*2*3
Factorise LCM
72=2*2*2*3*3
The HCF is the common factor for both numbers whereas the LCM contains all the unique factors of both numbers.
So, 2*2*3 or 12 is a common factor of both numbers.
So, 2 is a factor of one number and 3 is the factor of the second number.
The first number = 12*2=24
The second number = 12*3=36
Now,given that 24*36=60 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- put answers / Options in your equations
a+b =60
a*b=H.C.F * L.C.M
put 24 and 36 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
