• The number of junior students is 11.475 which is 11 approximately. The solution is thus;
  Let number of junior students =x
  Twice the number of junior students =2x
  Senior students is five fewer than twice the number of junior students=2x-5
  30% of the students in the band are neither senior students nor junior students means 30%(0.3)will be deducted from both senior students and junior students. The overall equation gives : ( 2x-5 -0.3) +(x-0.3)+(x) +(0.3)=40.
  X =11.475=11(apprx)
  Check:
  senior students=
  2x-5=2(11.475)-5=17.95
  =18(apprx)
  30% from senior students
  =17.95-0.3=17.65
  30% from junior students
  11.475-0.3=11.175
  Adding all this together =
