The series of numbers (1,1/2,1/3.....1/1972) is taken.Now two numbers are taken from this series(the first two) say x,y. Then the operation x+y+x.y is performed to get the consolidated number.The process is repeated. What will be the final number after the consolidation of all into one number.

1+1/2+1*1/2 = 2
now series left is (2,1/3,1/4,......1/1972)
take 2&1/3
2+1/3+2/3=3
Now repeat this step till last and the series will be (1971,1/1972)

suppose in x=1,y=1/2
so,x+y+x.y will evaluate to 1+1/2+1/2=2;
now x=2,y=1/3;
so,x+y+x.y=2+1/3+2/3=3
we see that if the above operation is performed on first two nos. answer is 2 and when applied on first three terms of the series it is 3.... so when applied till the last term it would be the reciprocal of the last term i.e., 1972. - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
