  With 40 children absent, present children=140 and each child got (x+4) chocolates.
  So, 180x = 140(x+4)
  => 9x = 7x+28
  => x=14

  it was initially distributed amongst 180 students therefore each student used to get (x/180) chocolates.
  now their are 40 less students therefore x chocolates will be distributed amongst (180-40) i.e. 140 students therefore each will get (x/140) no. of chocolates.
  each student gets 4 extra chocolates therefore
  (x/140)-(x/180)=4

  no.of extra=4 per each childe so,
  (x/220)+4=(x/180)
