Time Distance and Speed
A person takes 3 hours to walk to a place and then drive back. Had he driven both ways he would have saved one hour. What is the time which the would take if he walks both ways?
a) 4hrs b) 3 hrs c) 6 hrs d) 5hr
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- a) 4 hrs
Let the one way distance=x km, walking speed=w kmph and driving speed=d kmph, then
x/w + x/d = 3 ---(i) and
x/d + x/d = 2 => x/d=1 hr. ---(ii)
From (i) & (ii), x/w=2 hrs.
So time taken to walk both ways=x/w + x/w = 2+2= 4 hrs. - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- let x be the time reqd to walk and y be the time reqd to drive first case x+y=3
second case 2y=2
so y=1
and the ans is 2x
i.e 2*2=4 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
