A shopkeeper has a faulty balance, in which the 2 pans have unequal weights. With his balance he weighs 10 kg of rice. However, the customer insists that the rice be kept in the other pan and weighted. The weight of the rice then turns out to be 8.5 kg. Find the actual weight of the rice.
Read Solution (Total 1)
-
- 9.25 kg.
Let the right pan of the weight has additional weight of 'x' kg and let 'R' kg is weighted.
With 10 kg. weight on left and rice on right pan : 10 = x+R and
With rice on left pan and 8.5 kg wight on right pan : R = x + 8.5
Solving above two equations, x=0.75, R=9.25 kg. - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(0)
