An apple costs Rs. 20. An orange costs Rs. 5. A banana costs Rs. 4. In a basket there are 30 fruits of which 6 are apples and the remaining are oranges and bananas. The total cost of the fruits in the basket is Rs. 230. How many oranges are there in the basket?
Read Solution (Total 14)
-
- total no of oranges be x
given no. of apples is 6
so remaining bananas is 30-x-6=24-x
now equation is 5*x+(24-x)*4=230-120
so x=14 oranges
24-x=10 bananas - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(1)
- 14 is correct

- 30-6=24
6*20=120
230-120=110
let x=orange
then 24-x=banana
x*5+(24-x)*4=110
x=14(ans) - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(1)
- let x,y,z no of fruits apple and orange and bananas.
so x+y+z=30
we know that x=6
x+y=30-6=24 --------------------(i)
the total cost of all fruit is
20x+sy+4z=230
we know that x=6
so,
5y+4z=230-120
5y+4z=110 -----------------------(ii)
solve equation i and ii you will get
y=14 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- 10
because 230-120-(5*14+4*10)=0 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- Total fruits 30
Total amount 230
Out of 6 fruits is appples then 6*20=120
Remaining fruits 24 and amount 110 rupees
Now go through options 14 oranges and 10 banana
14*5+10*4=110 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Total fruits =30
No.of apples is 6
Oranges +bananas=24
Let oranges is x and bananas =24-x
Total cost is 230
Apples cost is 120
Cost of oranges and bananas is 230-120=110
Then 5x+(24-x)4=110
Then,x=14 which is no. Of oranges and 24-14=10 are bananas - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 14 is the correct answer..

- 6×20 +5x+4x=230
5x+4x=110
as (30-6=24) so 5×14+4×10=110
satisfy the condition - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- let no. of orange=x
no. of banana=total-apple-orange= 30-6-x=24-x
cost of apple+orange +banana=230
(20*6)+(5x)+(4*(24-x))=230
120+5x+96-4x=230
216+x=230
x=14 (NO. of Oranges) - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 6 apples cost is rs 20 Rs.
let x,y be oranges and bananas respectively
here x and y cost Rs. 5 and Rs.4 respectively
cost of 6 apples=6*20
cost of x oranges=5x
cost of y bananas =4y
total cost of fruits=230 Rs.
There are 30 fruits into the basket
Therefore,form the equation
20*6+ 5x +4y=230 =>5x+4y=110
and
6+x+y=30 =>x+y=24
by solving these equations we get ,
x=14
and y=10
so the answer is 14 for oranges
and if bananas are asked the answer is 10. - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Let an apple be X , an orange be Y and a banana be Z.
X+Y+Z=30
X=30
And
Cost of all fruits in basket is 230
Apple=20rs
Orange=5rs
Banana=4rs
20X+5Y+4z=30
By solving both equations we get
Y i.e total no. of oranges is 14 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- Total number of fruits =30
Total no. of apples = 6
Fruits in basket : 6+orange+banana=30
so, orange+banana=30-6 =(24).
so, orange+banana=24
Now the equation is : orange= 24-banana-----(1)
Total cost of fruits in the basket=230.
Apple=total cost of apple* total no. of apples
Apples= 20 *6=120.
120+5*orange+4*banana =230
5*orange+4*banana=110.-----(2)
Now , Substituting Eq.1 in Eq 2:
5*(24-banana) + 4*banana=110
120-1 banana=110
-1 banana=-10
banana =10;
Substituting the value of banana in Eq.1 :
so, the no. of oranges=24-10= 14. - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- total no of oranges be x
given no. of apples is 6
20*6 + 5x+4y = 230
5x + 4y = 230-120
5x + 4y = 110 --- (1)
w.k.t that ,
x+y +z =30
x+y+6=30
x+y = 24 ---- (2)
solve 1 and 2 , we get
sub y = 10 in (2)
so , we get X = 14
( or)
24-y= orange
