A large tanker can be filled by two pipes A and B in 40 minutes and 60 minutes respectively. How many minutes will it take to fill the tanker from empty state if B is used for half the time and A and B fill it together for the other half?

  in 1 min=1/60=b
  1/40+1/60=1/24
  tank filled in x minutes
  x/2(1/60+1/24)=1
  x/2*7/120=1
  x=240/7

• 1/60*2=30 for b and rest 1/2 for a and b . so a and b complete fill in 24 minutes and half fill =12 min . total time will be = 30+12=42 min.
