In a cricket tournament, 16 school teams participated. A sum of Rs.8000 is to be awarded among them as prize money. If the team placed last is award Rs.275 as prize money and the award increases by the same amount for successive finishing places, how much will the team place first receive?

• Let x amount increases successively
  Now amount paid in sequence as follows
  275,275+x,275+2x,275+3x,.......,275+15x
  
  And total amount to be paid=8000
  275×16+x(1+2+3+4+5+...15)=8000
  4400+(15×16/2)x=8000
  120x=8000-4400
  120x=3600
  x=30
  
  Thus first team will receive the amount of 275+30×15=725
