let the total salary=100'
so he gave 60 to his wife
his wife spent 20% of 60 on groceries i.e..60*20/100=12
and 30% of 60 on rent i.e.. 60*30/100=18
remaining i.e..60-(12+18)=30
this 30%=18000
100%=60000(total)
